Sonepat: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will takeover the doping case of wrestler Narsingh Yadav registered in Sonepat, after the Haryana government referred the case to the investigating agency, on Thursday.
The 74-kg wrestler had failed a dope test for the banned substance metadienone days before the Rio Olympics.
The grappler had claimed that his food was spiked by a junior wrestler, Jitesh, who practices at the Chhatarsal stadium in New Delhi.
A criminal case was registered against Jitesh at a police station in Sonepat district following the complaint by Narsingh.
Even after failing the dope test, Narsingh travelled to Rio to participate in the Olympics as National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) gave him a clean chit, considering him a victim of sabotage.
However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) challenged NADA’s decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). After which, Narsingh was debarred from participating in the Olympics. The CAS had also banned Narsingh for four years from wrestling.
Wrestling Federation of India had been constantly asking for a CBI probe into the matter.
