On a fast track

Jeet Jhabak, a Hyderabad-based racer sealed the title as he successfully finished the final round of the Volkswagen Vento Cup.

On Sunday, Volkswagen Motorsport India finished yet another thrilling season of its premium one-make series with the last round of the MMSC Volkswagen Vento Cup 2016.

Jeet Jhabak, the racer who won the title claims to never have raced before. “It’s my first time on the track and it has been an incredible racing season for me. Meeting seniors and great racers made the experience even better. I had 7 wins out of 7 and winning the championship has given me the confidence to continue in this field,” says Jeet.

The race was spread over a period of five months and all the drivers drove Volkswagon Vento. When asked about his experience in this season, Jeet says, “I learnt a lot from the seniors. Ishaan Dodhiwala and Karminder Pal Singh helped me with suggestions and advise.

The most difficult part however was getting used to the cars, despite a lot of practice sessions. Timing the lap is one thing, but it was important to get acquainted with the race strategy. I had seniors chasing me, taking the corner quicker than me. There was a lot of pressure but it all worked well,” says Jeet.

Jeet will prepare for the championship next year and wants to be a part of Formula 2000. “In the next three to four years, I hope I am able to be a part of Formula 1600,” he adds.

A former financial advisor at a firm, Jeet believes that winning is important. “Of course it has to be a clean race but no one remembers the person who comes second. This is what pushes me to put my best foot forward. I like to win,” he concludes.
