CWG 2018: After Sanjita Chanu's gold, Deepak Lather's bronze seals India's 4th medal

The 21-year-old weightlifter from Delhi lifted a total of 295 kgs to win the medal.

Gold Coast: Deepak Lather gave India it’s fourth medal of the 21st Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast on Friday, by winning the bronze medal in the men’s 69 kg weightlifting competiton. Lather also became the youngest Indian weightlifter to claim a Commonwealth Games medal.

The 18-year-old weightlifter from Delhi lifted a total of 295 kgs to win the medal. Gareth Evans of Wales won the gold with 299 kgs, while Indika Dissanayake of Sri Lanka won the silver with 297kgs.

Deepak lifted 136kgs in snatch and 159 kgs in clean and jerk to finish third in the standings. He was joint second at half way stage, before finishing in bronze medal position.

Earlier in the day, Sanjita Chanu won India's second gold medal in the women's 53kg weightlifting category. On Thursday, Mirabai Chanu and P Gururaja opened the account for Team India by winning gold and silver medals respectively.
