Sowjanya Bavisetti is in line for double crown

On Friday, Sowjanya won the women’s doubles title alongside partner Rishika Sunkara of Delhi and also entered Saturday’s singles final.

Hyderabad: Telangana’s Sowjanya Bavisetti is line for a double at the Fenesta Open National Tennis championship being played at the RK Khanna Stadium in Delhi.

On Friday, Sowjanya won the women’s doubles title alongside partner Rishika Sunkara of Delhi and also entered Saturday’s singles final.

In the doubles final, Sowjanya and Rishika Sunkara of Delhi defeated Y. Sai Dedeepya of Telangana and Sara Yadav of Madhya Pradesh in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

In the singles semifinals, top seeded Sowjanya beat third seed Vaidehi Chaudhari 6-3, 7-5. She will now meet fourth seed Prerna Bhambri, who defeated Jagmeet Kaur 6-2, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

In the girls U-18 category, Telangana’s Shrivalli Rashmikaa reached the final with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Prerna Vichare of Maharashtra. She will now clash with Sandeepti Singh Rao who got past Reshma Murari 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

On the men’s side, Nikki K. Poonacha set up a title clash with Aryan Goveas, who beat Kunal Anand 6-2, 6-4. Nikki beat Dalwinder Singh 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in a close match.

Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash and Ishaque Eqbal won the men’s doubles title after they got a walkover from their opponents Nikki and Prajwal Dev.
