State skeet shooters get bronze
Hyderabad: Telangana shooters Zahra Mufaddal Deesawala, Rashmmi Rathore, Dandu Katyayani Raju and Sonali Raju Nalaparaju created history by winning bronze medals in the women’s senior and junior team event clay pigeon skeet category at the National Shooting Championship in Shotgun Events conducted by National Rifle Association of India at Oases, Rajasthan State Sports Council Indoor Shooting Range in Jagatpura, Jaipur, on Monday.
This was the first time that the State Skeet women had won a medal.In the senior women’s cateogry, Zahra Mufaddal Deesawala shot a score of 111 to lead the Telangana shooters followed by Rashmmi Rathore, who got 109 and Dandu Katyayani Raju, who chipped in 99 for a combined score of 319 that was third best, behind their opponents from Punjab (342) and Rajasthan (331).
In the junior women’s category, Katyayani Raju made way for Sonali Raju Nalaparaju, whose 94 took the team aggregate to 304, which was still the third best behind Punjab and Rajasthan again.
Shooters from Telangana have been doing well at the nationals with Kynan Chenai setting the mark with a gold medal in the men’s trap event before Gusti Noria impressed in the Clay Pigeon Skeet final to take gold among veteran men.
Earlier, pistol shooter Esha Singh had beaten big names such as Heena Sidhu and Manu Bhaker to win five medals.
