Bengaluru set to host 10th edition of AASF

The nine-day sporting extravaganza will have over 40 countries and more than 1200 participants.

BENGALURU: Bengaluru is all set to host the 10th edition of the AASF (Asian Age Group Championships) from September 24th- October 2, giving the country’s swimming enthusiasts an opportunity to witness the largest Aquatic Event in the continent. This was revealed in press interaction on Friday by the members of the Swimming Federation of India (SFI).

An initiative of the SFI, the event along with the support of the Karnataka Swimming Association hopes to attract the top swimming talent from across the country and develop the sport.

“This is the largest Aquatic Championships in Asia as it’s not only for open category (18 years and above) like the Asian Games and Asian Championships but will also include participants from Age Groups I (15-17 years) and II (14 years and below). The last time India hosted this event was in 1999 and I am sure this Championships coming to India will spur the popularity of the sport with aspiring swimmers getting to watch their icons live in action,” said Monal Chokshi, Secretary-General, SFI.

The nine-day sporting extravaganza will have over 40 countries and more than 1200 participants vying for top honours in four different aquatic disciplines such as swimming, diving, water polo, and the visually-mesmerizing artistic swimming.

What adds context to this event is that the event has been recognised by FINA as an Olympic Qualifier and Indian swimmers will enjoy home advantage as they aim for A qualification Mark for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
