Hyderabad: Cut throat competitions were on show at the Hussainsagar lake on Thursday with wind speed reaching up to 20 knots to make sailing exciting on the third day of the Hyderabad Sailing Week. The team of Hemant Kumar and P Karthick Kumar of CESC took the pole position by winning the eighth race and finishing second and fourth in races 9 and 10 respectively to tally 17 points.
Vignesh and Powenraj of CESC and Madhu and Lavin HK of TSC were at second and third positions with 19 and 20 points respectively. It was a good day for NSS Bhopal in the Laser 4.7. Govind Bairagi won two races and Ram Milan Yadav got two third positions and a fourth. In the seventh race, a close contest ensued between Gobind Biragi of NSS Bhopal and & Koteshwar Rao of TSC, but the wind favoured Gobind.
In the Laser Standard category, wind raged from 12 to 22 knots during all three races. Sailors from the Army Yachting Node dominated this category. Gitesh won the seventh and ninth races while Mohit Saini won the eighth. RS:X was pretty rough. Out of 15 surfers taking part, only four participants could complete the seventh race, seven competitors could finish Race No.8 and six got home in Race No.9.
