Hyderabad Equestrian Abbas Honoured With Youth Award
The 21-year-old’s nomination describes a 17-year journey in equestrian sport and identifies him as the youngest Indian rider
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad equestrian Abbas Khan has been awarded the Bharat Gaurav (Youth) Award, becoming the first Indian showjumping athlete to receive this honour at a distinguished ceremony held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The award was presented by Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) in recognition of his achievements in equestrian sport and his contribution towards representing India on the international showjumping stage.
The 21-year-old’s nomination describes a 17-year journey in equestrian sport and identifies him as the youngest Indian rider to consistently compete and place at the prestigious 1.45m-1.50m international level. Over the past five years, Abbas has represented India across seven European countries — Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Austria and Slovakia — competing from CSI-1 through CSI-4 and CSIU-25 ‘A’ levels. His nomination records podium and top-10 finishes at elite venues, while carrying India’s representation on the international stage.
