Gaudium Gymnasts Emerge Best With Rich Medal Haul
The event brought 1,200+ young gymnasts from 15 states across India
HYDERABAD: Host Gaudium School won the GymQuinn All India Rhythmic & Artistic Gymnastics competition hands down by bagging a whopping 472 medals — 174 gold, 158 silver and 140 bronze.
Hyflyers Gymnastics Academy and Gymnora finished second and third respectively.
Hyflyers tallied 246 medals, of which 72 were gold, 109 silver and 65 bronze. Gymnora’s count read an impressive 273 — 54 golds, 135 silvers and 84 bronzes.
The event brought 1,200+ young gymnasts from 15 states across India, making it one of the country’s largest grassroots-level, with a eight level-wise gymnastics competitions featuring Rhythmic Gymnastics and Artistic Gymnastics, including Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG).
Rima Kizilgun, president, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Technical Committee, Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU) and International Judge was honoured at the valedictory function.
The Gaudium School founder & director K. Kirthi Reddy inaugurated the event alongside national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, DCP — She Teams Sirisha Raghavendra, Hetero Healthcare Limited Managing Director Srinivas Reddy among others.
Sreemanya in ITF Astana tennis tourney main draw
Hyderabad’s 18-year-old Anugonda Sreemanya Reddy has qualified for the main draw of the ITF World Tennis Tour W15 Astana tournament in Kazakhstan after defeating Mexico’s Ximena Senties 6-3, 6-4 in the final qualifying round. Sreemanya received a first-round bye before overcoming China’s Xiaoyue Xuan 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 in a closely contested second-round match. She then produced a solid performance against Ximena Senties to win in straight sets and secure her place in the main draw.
Aheel, Kanishka are singles champions
Telangana’s Aheel Mohammad and Kanishka Govind of Tamil Nadu won the boys and girls singles titles at the All India Tennis Association (AITA) National Series Under-14 tennis tournament held at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad.
Aheel defeated Kabir Gundecha of Maharashtra 7-6(3), 6-2 while Kanishka proved too good for Aneeksha Gavinolla of Telangana 6-0, 6-4.
Karnataka’s S. Nihal Reddy & Neev Sheth Maharashtra won the boys doubles by beating Delhi’s Arjun Dua & Viraj Jarwal 6-1, 6-3. In the girls doubles final, Maharashtra’s Trisha Bhosale & Tamil Nadu’s Kanishka Govind beat Karnataka’s Saraf Priyal & Telangana’s Aneeksh Govinolla 6-2, 3-6(10-7).
Indo-Spain football grassroots event in October
British Deputy High Commissioner for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Gareth Wynn Owen on Tuesday launched the official jersey of the upcoming India-Spain International Grassroots Football Development Programme in Hyderabad. The international initiative aims to strengthen grassroots football development in India, with a special focus on Under-14 athletes. The programme will provide young footballers with professional coaching and training based on internationally recognised Spanish football development methodology.
As part of the initiative, Arturo Perez Garcia, a talented teenage footballer from Spain, will visit Hyderabad for two weeks from the third week of October. The programme will also feature talent identification and player assessments, giving promising footballers an opportunity to be shortlisted for an advanced development pathway, with potential future training and football exposure in Spain. Training sessions will be conducted in collaboration with international schools, government schools and football clubs across Hyderabad, ensuring players from diverse backgrounds have access to international football development practices, organisers stated.
Norman is Event Director at Asia Cup basketball
Hyderabad’s Norman Isaac, chairman of the Technical Commission of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and general secretary of the Hyderabad District Basketball Association, has been nominated Event Director for the prestigious Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) Under-18 Asia Cup 2026 for Men. The tournament will be held at the Veer Savarkar Indoor Stadium in Naranpur in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from August 13 to 23.
The tournament will feature participation from the top 16 national teams across Asia and Oceania, with the top four teams qualifying for the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup 2026, thereby underscoring its international significance.
Norman is a veteran basketball administrator and an astute FIBA International Technical Delegate and FIBA Commissioner. As a player, he made his first appearance at the Senior Nationals in Ludhiana in 1981, representing Andhra Pradesh till 1992. After clearing Referee BFI ‘B’ Panel in 1993 and BFI ‘A’ Panel in 1996, he became a FIBA referee in 2001. He was appointed a FIBA Commissioner in 2006.
Sudhakar sets a record in karate
Hyderabad’s V. Sudhakar created a world record in Karate by Breaking 80 shabad tiles in the build-up to India’s 80th Independence Day at an event organised by GVR Karate Academy at Dr G. S. Melkote Park in Hyderabad.
Sudhakar, who is serving as constable in Alwal Police Station under the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, demonstrated exceptional skills by breaking the tiles using nine different karate body techniques in three minutes and six seconds, setting the record at the ‘Wonder Book of Records International’ supervised event.
Silverbacks snatch silverware in USA Cup
Silverbacks defeated Sparks Strikers to win the Reno Cricket Club trophy that was contested by six teams in Reno, Nevada (USA).
The Silverbacks total of 237 for 9 in 20 overs was boosted by Nouman Khan’s 83 off 34 balls and Rashid Nawaz’s 72 off 36, even as Shanawaz claimed fine figures of 6/18 in a losing cause. In reply, the Strikers were never in the hunt and were bowled out for a paltry 123. Nouman returned to take 4/17 to seal the 114-run win — capping a campaign that earned him Player of the Tournament.
Leonal Justin, who played for Hyderabad Juniors and ran a cricket camp in Hyderabad for many years as a coach, was invited as the Chief Guest for the final and presented the trophy to the winning team. Also present were members of the Reno Cricket Club organising committee Abhilash Putta, Dominic Savio, Deepak Raju, Rahul Saha and Shiva SN.
Reno Cricket Club is a growing cricket community with about 150 members and players from India, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, who come together as part of different teams.
