Mbappe Rejects Messi-Ronaldo Comparisons, Focuses on World Cup Glory

French star insists team success matters more than individual legacy, eyes another World Cup triumph

New York: France forward Kylian Mbappe has brushed aside comparisons with football greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, stating that both legends remain the benchmark in world football while he remains focused on winning another World Cup with his national team.

Speaking during the ongoing tournament, Mbappe made it clear that debates around individual greatness do not concern him, as his priority is to help France succeed on the biggest stage. He emphasised living in the present and enjoying the competition rather than worrying about legacy or long-term records.

“Messi is the best player, along with Cristiano, that’s clear. I’m trying to help my team win another World Cup. The rest is just debate for journalists,” Mbappe said.

He further added that he is not thinking about rivals like Erling Haaland, stressing instead on immediate challenges and upcoming matches. Mbappe also downplayed discussions about breaking the all-time World Cup scoring record, reiterating that team success outweighs personal milestones.

Praising Messi’s consistency, Mbappe acknowledged the Argentine’s ability to deliver in crucial moments, saying he expected him to score.

“The most important thing for me is winning the World Cup,” he said, underlining his commitment to guiding France to another successful campaign.
