Mumbai City FC launches esports team, to compete in FIFA 22

The ISL club has signed gamers Saksham Sakky' Rattan and Siddh Jenasidfc' Chandarana to represent them

Mumbai: Defending Indian Super League champions Mumbai City FC have launched their esports team and are set to become the first Indian football club to field a team in the FIFA Global Series.

The FIFA Global Series (FGS) is the official FIFA tournament held by game developer EA Sports where the top players compete in esports competitions.

Mumbai City FC have signed gamers Saksham ‘Sakky’ Rattan and Siddh ‘Jenasidfc’ Chandarana to compete in FIFA 22 events nationally and internationally.

Saksham and Siddh, ranked 3rd and 5th in India, respectively, have won various tournaments at the international stage for India, including the FIFA eNations Series and ESL Asia Cup.

Mumbai City FC is owned by the City Football Group, who also own the Premier League club Manchester City FC.

Manchester City FC too has their own esports team. Other notable football clubs to have field esports teams include Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain.

The FIFA 22 game also includes the Indian Super League (ISL), featuring all 11 clubs.

Esports has been making inroads into traditional sports competitions and are now part of the Asian Games 2022 to be held in Hangzhou, China. Eight games, including FIFA, will be medal events at the big-ticket continental competition.
