Mumbai FC avoid I-League relegation

A brace from Liberian striker Eric Brown and strikes from Jayesh Rane and Sushil Kumar Singh earned the honours for the home side.

Mumbai: Mumbai FC finished their I-League season on a high with a 4-0 victory over DSK Shivajians in the Maharashtra Derby clash here on Sunday.

A brace from Liberian striker Eric Brown and strikes from Jayesh Rane and Sushil Kumar Singh earned the honours for the home side. The Khaild Jamil coached-side not only avoided relegation but also leapfrogged from the seventh position to finish the nine-team league on a creditable fifth with 19 points.

Shivajians ended at the bottom with 15 points and although the I-League debutants will not be relegated, they will not feature in next week’s Federation Cup with a ninth-place finish. Aizawl FC, who finished eighth, were relegated in the I-League but can feature in the Federation Cup.

Mumbai FC had their destiny in their own hands and made the right start.
After a couple of missed chances, they made it count when Rane slotted home in the 20th minute to bring the crowd to their feet.
