Gerrard's hint at Galaxy goodbye excites Liverpool fans

Gerrard scored 120 goals for Liverpool in more than 500 matches with the club.

Los Angeles: Former England captain Steven Gerrard sparked talk of a return to English Premier League side Liverpool on Saturday after an Instagram post seemed to hint at him leaving the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy conclude their Major League Soccer regular season Sunday against FC Dallas, and although the playoff quest for the league crown remains, hopeful Reds supporters were optimistic the 36-year-old might return to Anfield, where he played for Liverpool from 1998 until 2015.

"Living in Los Angeles and playing for the great Galaxy supporters has been a privilege," Gerrard wrote. "You have made this place feel like home to me. This city and this club will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you."

Gerrard's contract is set to expire at the conclusion of this MLS campaign and the long-time England international would be welcomed at Liverpool as the season there reaches the quarter-pole next weekend.

After Liverpool's 2-1 home victory Saturday over West Bromich Albion, Reds coach Jurgen Klopp said Gerrard would be greeted grandly.

"Steven Gerrard is always so welcome at Liverpool FC -- you can't imagine how welcome," Klopp said. "But everything that we have already talked about or will speak about stays in this situation. That's how I know Stevie and that's how I am.

"But nobody should worry that there's no space for Steven Gerrard. Everything will be fine, 100 percent."

Gerrard scored 120 goals for Liverpool in more than 500 matches with the club. He has found the net five times for the Galaxy.
