Thrissur lad to play for India in FIFA tourney
Thrissur: Rahul Kannoly Praveen from Thrissur has been selected to the 21-member Indian team for the upcoming Under-17 FIFA Football. The mega tourney is hosted by India and will kick off on October 6. Rahul is a resident of Ollukkara here and will play for India as an attacking midfielder, if selected in the final 11. He is the son of Kannoly Praveen and was partof the national-level football camps for the past three years. Known for his exceptional ability in striking long balls and his agility on the football turf, he has played several friendly matches in foreign countries.
Veteran football coach Peethambaran in Thrissur and SEFT Football Academy in Parapur had earlier acknowledged his talent and gave him regular training. His mother, Bindu, said that she was extremely proud of her son who would most probably wear India’s colours in India’s first match in the World Cup scheduled to be played against USA in Delhi on October 6. Rahul’s friends and relatives celebrated by bursting firecrackers near his residence here after the team was announced on Thursday afternoon.
