India not just a cricket country anymore: Roca

Bengaluru: With Bengaluru FC becoming the first club in Indian history to enter the AFC Cup final, head coach Albert Roca was satisfied with achievement even as he addressed their date with destiny on November 5 when they take on Air Force Club in the final.

“It’s a great day. Perhaps today we can say that India is not just a cricket country anymore. Because there is a football shift and that’s something important and we are happy for that. Everyone is involved, not just JSW, but all teams in India, so it’s very important,” he remarked.

“To win the title would be an incredible reward for all of us. We have to keep working hard with the same mentality and behaviour and if we do that, we will have our chances,” added the Spaniard.

Chhetri doffs his hat to fans
Captain Sunil Chhetri, meanwhile, was quick to thank the vociferous crowd that came in drove to support the team.

“It’s not easy to defeat the defending champions and we have done that. To be honest, I expected my team to play like this. When we went down before, the team showed great character. I don’t mean just the team but the crowd too. If not for them we wouldn’t have reacted the way we did,” he said.

Meanwhile, JDT head coach Mario Gomez lamented his team’s inability to defend set-pieces. “You’re winning 1-0. And we conceded goals from corner, free kick and a long shot. It was a bit difficult but Bengaluru played very well,” he remarked.
