Luis Enrique resigns from managing Spain; Assistant Moreno to take charge

Mumbai: Former Barcelona player and manager Luis Enrique, better known by his nickname Lucho stepped down from his role as head coach for the Spanish national team.

Stating personal reasons to be the cause of his departure, The manager had been absent from Spain’s campaigns since March.

However, Spain’s captain Sergio Ramos has backed the manager’s decision to step down and has declared on Twitter that all of Spain’s upcoming wins will also belong to Enrique despite his exit.

FC Barcelona, Enrique’s former team and the last club he coached also supported the manager on his decision.

After the confirmation on Wednesday, Luis Enrique thanked the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the media and the Spanish squad, mentioning the understanding and privacy that they have shown in the matter.

Spain’s team will now be handled by Enrique’s assistant Robert Moreno until at least the conclusion of the Euro Cup 2020.
