Newcastle: April Fool’s Day is just around the corner but Newcastle United fans can't keep calm with the news surrounding the takeover of the Premier League club.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather recently made a stunning claim that he is interested in buying the Magpies after club owner Mike Ashley made it clear he was looking to find a new owner.

Newcastle have been seeking a new owner since October 2017, after Sports Direct and Ashley were keen on walking away. Ashley reportedly struck a deal with Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners but talks between the two parties soon fell off.

But Mr Money wants to invest his cash in the Toons after earning millions in his boxing career.

“You better believe if I were to invest in Newcastle I would be back partying there often," Mayweather told the Daily Star Sunday.

“I love Newcastle. Those guys like to party as hard as any city I have been to anywhere in the world. I met some of the players last year – and they are good guys. I am always open to new business opportunities and I love all sports, but I invest with my head not my heart. Investing with your heart is the quickest way to lose money. But if somebody put together a business plan and my people looking over it and went ‘Floyd that can make money’ then I would invest,” Mayweather added.

The American made a bizarre claim further, saying he could bring close friend and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo back to the Premier League, this time, in the famous black and white shirt.

“Soccer might not be my game but I’ve got connections everywhere. Ronaldo has been a long-time supporter and buddy of mine, so I might even be able to get him to finish his career off at Newcastle,” he added.

Though Rafa Benitez’s side may be well safe from the jaws of relegation now, a move for the Real Madrid star could get them challenging for the Premier League title soon.
