Footballers lose as State misses date

The fiasco has left young players who had trained for a month extremely disappointed.

Hyderabad: Thanks to official apathy, Telangana will not be able to field it’s team for the upcoming Junior National Football Tournament to be held in Rajkot, Gujarat, from November 18 to 20.

The Telangana Football Association (TFA) failed to register its Under 17 players with the All India Football Federation’s mandatory Central Registration System (CRS), the deadline for which was November 1.

With the TFA missing out on that, they were not allowed to register with the Central Management System (CMS) as well which decides the tournament fixtures.

When contacted, All India Football Federation (AIFF) assistant general secretary and director of competitions Anil Kamat, said: “The deadline for registration was on November 1. The Telangana officials called to register the team on November 12 which was too late. The CRS system shuts down automatically after the deadline. If there was any technical difficulty, the registration could have been pushed by a day or two but not for 10 to 12 days.”
