Indian Super League: FC Pune City part ways with manager Antonio Lopez Habas

Under Antonio Lopez Habas, FC Pune City finished in sixth place last season, having won four, drawn 4 and losing six matches.

Pune: Indian Super League (ISL) outfit FC Pune City on Friday parted ways with manager Antonio Lopez Habas and assistant manager Miguel Martinez Gonzalez.

The 60-year-old Spaniard had taken over as manager of the Maharashtra-based franchise in 2016, after having led their rivals Atletico de Kolkata to the inaugural league title back in 2014. Under Habas, FC Pune City finished in sixth place last season, having won four, drawn 4 and losing six matches.

“FC Pune City thanks Habas for his efforts over the last one and half years and wishes him the best in his future endeavors," the club said. "The name of the new Head Coach will be announced shortly," it added.

Antonio Habas also spoke on this.

“It was a very professional and pleasant experience working with FC Pune City in ISL. However, due to longer season, it is unfortunate that I cannot continue as I have already made prior contractual commitments.

"I would like to thank the Owners, Management and the Orange Army who has stood by the team in the best and the worst moments. I wish the Club all the best for the future,” he stated.

The fourth season of the Indian Super League will kick-off in November, and will witness ten teams for the first time, after inclusion of Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC. The ten-team tournament will run on till March.
