Robin Singh eyes stronger comeback

The Noida-born Robin, who plays for Delhi Dynamos, believes the merger of ISL and I-League will help football grow in the country.

Bengaluru: Recuperating from a severe ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear suffered during the SAFF Championship last year, the Indian striker Robin Singh is on the road to recovery.

“It is much better now and I am focusing on getting completely healed. I will come back soon and stronger than before,” he said. In the city for the 'Ignite Your City run,’ the 25-year-old former Bengaluru FC forward has been out of action for the last few months. Danny Deigan, the Indian national team’s sports scientist, is monitoring Robin’s progress. “Being a footballer, injuries are inevitable. The only thing one can do is to be positive and look back to coming even stronger after the injury,” said the towering striker.

The Noida-born Robin, who plays for Delhi Dynamos, believes the merger of Indian Super League and I-League will help football grow in the country.

“Regardless of the merger, my job is to play well and put a wholehearted effort in making sure that my team comes out winning. Over the years we have seen a remarkable growth in the football scenario in India,” he stated.

Prior to the recently concluded I-League season, Robin was in the centre of tussle between Dynamos and BFC over a player agreement which wasn't penned. Also, Dynamos claimed that Robin was keen to play for a club abroad. “Right now, the only thing on my mind is to get fit. Indian or international clubs are something I will think about once I am back stronger. There was absolutely no tussle with BFC. Unfortunately, I got injured and had to take time off to recover,” he asserted.

Apart from undergoing lengthy physiotherapy sessions and strengthening, Robin spends time doing yoga. “Yoga is what I do to keep my mind calm, composed and positive and meditating is a great way to build and maintain focus, and focus is one of the most crucial aspects one needs in a game like football,” he concluded.
