FIFA U-17 World Cup: India drawn alongside USA, Ghana and Colombia in Group A

India will host its first ever FIFA tournament, when the 24-team event kicks-off on October 6 at the Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.

Mumbai: Hosts India have been drawn with USA, Colombia and Ghana in Group A for the upcoming 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in three months, after the draw was announced in Mumbai, on Friday.

Former Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu, ex-Argentina international Esteban Cambiasso, current India captain Sunil Chettri and shuttler PV Sindhu were among those present at the event. AIFF president Praful Patel, Sports Minister Vijay Goel were also present.

India will host its first ever FIFA tournament, when the 24-team global event kicks-off on October 6 at the Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The final will be played on October 28 at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. India’s home games were scheduled to be held in Mumbai but were later shifted to New Delhi.

Defending champions Nigeria will not take part in the tournament as they failed to reach the final round of the qualifying round.

The top two teams from each of the six groups will advance to the knockout stage, whereas four of the best third placed team will also qualify.
