I-League: Mohun Bagan brush aside Shillong Lajong

Bagan broke the deadlock when Dicka headed in a corner kick from Cameron Watson.

New Delhi: Mohun Bagan registered a commanding 3-0 victory over hosts Shillong Lajong in an I-League match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Saturday.

Akram doubled their lead with a calm finish from inside the box. Three minutes later Faiaz netted to seal the victory. Chennai will host Mohun Bagan next on February 7 whereas Aizawl will fly to Goa to face Churchill Brothers FC Goa on February 6.

East Bengal will look to get some crucial points when they clash with Indian Arrows in Kolkata on Sunday. I-League leaders Minerva Punjab’s five-match unbeaten run came to an end when Churchill Brothers beat them 2-1 in a closely-contested match in Goa on Friday.

This gives East Bengal a chance to catch up with Minerva, who have 26 points, six more than East Bengal. Of the six remaining matches, East Bengal play three at home and take on Minerva in an away match as Khalid Jamil’s team cannot afford to lose from now on.
