Hall of Fame for great footballers

Veteran footballer from Hyderabad Shahid Hakeem has already supported the exhibition, which will be held in September in New Delhi.

Hyderabad: To give due recognition to the legendary footballers who have represented India at international platforms like the Olympics and the Asian Games, Waseem Aivi, president of the Indo-Europe Sports Promotion Council, has come up with a ‘Hall of Fame’ exhibition.

Veteran footballer from Hyderabad Shahid Hakeem has already supported the exhibition, which will be held in September in New Delhi. The exhibition will showcase the photographs and the write-ups about the Olympians from 1948 to 1960 and the Asian Games medallists.

“The aim of the exhibition is to pay tributes to the former legendary footballers. It will help encourage the Indian U-17 football team to improve their performance in the upcoming U-17 World Cup,” Shahid said, while addressing the media here on Wednesday at an event.

Shahid, who was also the former director of the National Institute of Sports, added, “Hyderabad has given immense contribution to football in this country. However, lack of infrastructure has degraded the football culture in city.”

The Olympians and the Asian Games medallists, FIFA referees, national coaches, administrators (1948-1982) and the families of the deceased players can mail the pictures and the write-ups to the following email ids waseem.alvi@gmail.com / syedhakim.olympian@ yahoo.com.
