Kolkata: The third phase of ticket sales for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup matches happening in the city were on Thursday sold out. This includes the tickets for the final at Salt Lake Stadium on October 28 and the third place playoff game at the same venue.

The third phase of ticket sales in Kolkata kicked off on July 20. This phase included the tickets for all the matches happening in the city. Tournament director Javier Ceppi expressed happiness over this.

"It is quite astonishing that all the tickets that have been put for sale for the 3rd Place and Final matches in Kolkata have been bought by the fans. This is historical because to be able to get this response more than 60 days from the tournament is something that we have not seen before,” he said.

“For sure, the atmosphere for the 3rd Place and Final matches of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 will be amazing and all those lucky fans who have been able to get a hold of tickets for this game will be in for an experience of a lifetime.

We hope that this also motivates all the football fans across the country to get their hands on a ticket for the remaining 50 matches of the World Cup," Ceppi further stated.

However, there will be a 4th and final phase of ticket sales which will take place in October. According to the World Cup Local Organising Committee, the tickets will, however, be limited during the 4th phase, which will consist of the third place play off matches and the final at Kolkata.

India is set to host its first ever FIFA tournament when the U-17 World Cup kicks off on October 6. The 24-nation tournament will be spread over 22 days when the final takes place on October 28. India is grouped with the likes of Colombia, USA and Ghana.
