ISL: NorthEast United FC keep semis hopes alive
Guwahati: NorthEast United FC produced a stellar show to defeat Delhi Dynamos FC 2-1 at Guwahati on Wednesday to keep their semifinal hopes alive. Seityasen Singh and Romaric struck midway through the second half while Marcelinho halved Delhi's deficit in the 93rd minute.
After an eventful but goalless first half, NorthEast managed to break the deadlock on the hour mark as Seityasen controlled Didier Zokora's long ball on the right flank, showed great strength to shrug off Souvik Chakraborty and roll the ball into the goal from a tight angle.
Romaric, who had missed a good chance minutes ago, added their second in the 71st minute when he latched on to Robert Cullen's pass and finished neatly past an on-rushing Doblas.
Katsumi Yusa then saw his shot go just wide in the 83rd minute, but to be fair to the Japanese, he was off-balance. Alfaro then missed a chance in the third minute of added time before Delhi managed to get a goal back in the same minute through Marcelinho. who blasted his effort past goalkeeper Rehenesh at the near post for his ninth goal of the season.
With that result, NorthEast kept themselves in the hunt for a semis spot, needing three points from their final game against Kerala Blasters FC.
