Cheshire: Former England captain Wayne Rooney was on Friday arrested near his home in Cheshire on the suspicion of drink driving. The English forward was on Thursday night stopped by police while he had been out on that evening.

According to The Mirror, the current Everton striker had been taken to a local police station in Cheshire where he was questioned by officers.

“His speech was slurred, his lips were red with wine and his eyes were red. At midnight he was asked if he would come and say hello to guests at a private wedding party,” a source was quoted as saying.

Last year, the 31-year-old was seen ‘stumbling around’ and could hardly speak after he gatecrashed a wedding post England’s win over Scotland in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.

Rooney, who previously re-joined his boyhood club Everton from Manchester United this summer, had announced his retirement from international football in August.
