Kolkata: Atletico de Kolkata have acquired a top European recruit in the form of Finnish goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.
ATK, who previously had deep-rooted connections with Spanish football through their formerly parent club Atletico Madrid, now seem to be making new connections with English football.
They have already roped in Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham as their manager, earlier this year, and the signing of Sheringham points at a stronger connect with English football for the upcoming season.
Jaaskelainen brings with him a hoard of experience from English football, having played for clubs like Bolton Wanderers, West Ham United and Wigan Athletic in the Premier League.
ATK also signed Indian midfielder Darren Caldeira and fullback Nallappan Mohanraj. While Mohanraj has already played for ATK previously, the 29-year-old Caldeira has played for Bengaluru FC; he has also had a stint in the youth system of Spanish giants Valencia.
"I welcome the boys into the ATK family. We believe that this year our team is comprised of really dynamic Indian and foreign recruits and I am happy with three more exciting talented players who are all set to exhibit their skills. We look forward to an exciting season ahead. Mohanraj had been a part of the ATK family and we welcome him back," said ATK owner Sanjiv Goenka....
