Rayudu Doubts CSK Comeback As MI Dominate

Rayudu pinpointed CSK’s cautious approach during the middle overs as the key reason for their downfall

During the TATA IPL’s much-hyped "Revenge Week", former India cricketer and JioStar expert Ambati Rayudu cast serious doubts over Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) chances this season, stating, “I don’t see them coming back this season.” His remarks followed CSK’s lacklustre performance against Mumbai Indians (MI), who clinched a dominant win to stay in playoff contention.

Middle-Overs Meltdown for CSK

Rayudu pinpointed CSK’s cautious approach during the middle overs as the key reason for their downfall. “Scoring just 35 runs in around seven overs is unacceptable in modern T20 cricket. You can’t afford to switch off in the middle phase and hope to catch up later,” he said, emphasizing the need for greater intent.

With CSK slipping out of playoff contention, Rayudu hinted that the team may already be shifting focus to the next season. “Even Dhoni acknowledged they’re looking ahead. They’ll likely give more game time to young players like Ayush Mhatre and work on building a fearless culture,” he added.

Rohit and Suryakumar Shine in MI's Near-Perfect Game

Meanwhile, MI’s commanding win drew high praise from fellow JioStar expert Mark Boucher, who hailed the team’s all-round performance. “Mumbai Indians came close to playing the perfect game. They bowled brilliantly and batted with intent,” he said on Kuhl Fans Match Centre Live on JioHotstar.

Rohit Sharma’s composed knock was particularly impressive, as he anchored the innings with a crucial 70-plus score. “He didn’t need a hundred—just a solid, anchoring innings. It allowed players like Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to explode later,” Boucher said, noting the collective effort by MI’s senior players in a must-win clash.

Rayudu also lauded Rohit’s return to form, observing, “He looked hungry. These innings will not only boost his confidence but also lift the MI camp as we enter the business end of the season.”

Kohli’s Composed Knock Earns Applause

In the PBKS vs RCB clash, Virat Kohli’s record-extending 67th IPL half-century drew admiration from Rayudu. “It was a tailor-made situation, and he delivered with clinical precision. He paces his innings like a computer,” he said, highlighting Kohli’s calm mindset and unmatched ability to read game situations.
