Prabhsimran Eyes India Debut, Says ‘Watching Vaibhav Bat Brings Joy’
Punjab Kings opener credits Yuvraj, Ponting for growth; calls competition for India spots ‘healthy’

New Delhi: Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh is hoping to earn his maiden India cap in the upcoming Zimbabwe series, saying his immediate goal is to grab the opportunity and cement a place in the national side.
Speaking to JioStar, Prabhsimran said representing India has always been a key ambition alongside playing in the IPL. “I am playing in the IPL, but now I’ve gotten this opportunity to represent the country. My only wish is that I return as a capped player this time and perform well so that I get more opportunities,” he said.
The wicketkeeper-batter, who has delivered back-to-back 500-plus run seasons in the IPL, acknowledged the intense competition for opening slots in the Indian team but termed it “healthy”. He said the experience of sharing the dressing room with international stars in the IPL has helped him grow as a player.
Prabhsimran also spoke highly of youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with whom he opened during recent India A assignments. “Watching him bat is so much fun, it brings a lot of joy. We got to spend time together and discuss various things. It was a great experience,” he said.
Reflecting on his development, the 24-year-old credited former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting for shaping his approach. “Both have played a massive role in my career. They emphasise hard work, sticking to processes, and backing your natural game. That support is very important, especially for a young player,” he noted.
Prabhsimran said he has worked on improving consistency over the past two seasons. “Earlier, I would get starts but not convert them. Now, the mindset is to play through the innings and contribute more significantly to the team’s wins,” he explained.
Looking ahead, he stressed that consistency across formats remains his primary objective. “If I get the opportunity, I want to perform consistently and cement my place,” he added.
