Thiruvananthapuram: India Women cruised to an eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka Women to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the five-match T20I series.
The victory was set up by a devastating bowling performance, led by the returning Renuka Singh Thakur, who finished with impressive figures of 4/21. Making a comeback after a long break, Renuka bowled brilliantly with the new ball and rattled the Sri Lankan top order.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Renuka said she was pleased with her performance and described Kerala as her “lucky ground.” She recalled consistently taking four-wicket hauls there since her Under-19 days and said she was excited to return to the venue.
“My performance was good. I have played T20 cricket for a long time, so I am happy. Kerala is my lucky place. Whenever I have played here, I have taken four wickets,” Renuka said.
She also praised India’s bowling unit, highlighting the strong pacer–spinner combination and the team’s focus on finding the best balance ahead of the World Cup. Renuka added that the team aims to maintain high standards to win matches and take women’s cricket to the next level.
Alongside Renuka, Deepti Sharma delivered another standout performance, claiming 3/18. With this, Deepti matched Australia’s Megan Schutt as the joint-highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is with 151 wickets.
Sri Lanka struggled early in their innings, losing three wickets for 32, and were restricted to 112/7 in 20 overs despite a late unbeaten 19 from Kaushini Nuthyangana.
In reply, Shafali Verma starred with a blistering 79 off 42 balls, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten on 21. India chased down the target comfortably, winning with 6.4 overs to spare.
