Fatafat Cricket: Laws of the Game in Gujarati

Former BCCI umpire Keki Doodhwala has carried this legacy forward with his new book, 'Fatafat Cricket', explaining the laws of the game in Gujarati language

There have been very few attempts to explain the laws of cricket in vernacular languages, leaving many budding enthusiasts dependent on English texts. A few years ago, cricket writer and renowned sports commentator Prafful Vaidya took a pioneering step by penning the laws of cricket in Gujarati, making the complex rules accessible to local readers.

Now, former BCCI umpire Keki Doodhwala has carried this legacy forward with the recent publication of his book Fatafat Cricket. The book explains the laws of the game in Gujarati with clarity and precision, ensuring that young cricket followers from Gujarat can grasp the nuances of the sport without language barriers.

Adding weight to the publication, former India Test captain Dilip Vengsarkar has written the foreword, while cricketing legends Sunil Gavaskar, Farokh Engineer, and Roger Binny have penned their best wishes in the book. Their endorsements underline the importance of nurturing cricket literacy among the next generation.

With Fatafat Cricket, Gujarati readers now have a valuable resource to understand the laws of the game in their own language—a step that bridges tradition, accessibility, and passion for cricket.
