Ecstatic Hyderabadis erupt in joy after India decimate Pakistan

It was not just residential complexes, but also wedding receptions and birthday parties that joined the celebrations! Venues hosting receptions, birthday parties and social gatherings set up screens for the match

Hyderabad: Hyderabad erupted in celebrations after India thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan in a lopsided Champions Trophy showdown in Dubai on Sunday.

From apartment complexes to wedding venues, fans celebrated India’s victory in grand style. After all, it was a win over Pakistan.

Several high-rise residential communities arranged special screenings. As the winning shot was hit, fans erupted in loud cheers.

Among others, the toast of India’s win was the electrifying unbeaten 100 by Virat Kohli.

Sai Kiran from a high-rise community near Moosapet said “The excitement was unbelievable. The whole community came together to watch the special match. It was akin to a festival.”

It was not just residential complexes, but also wedding receptions and birthday parties that joined the celebrations! Venues hosting receptions, birthday parties and social gatherings set up screens for the match.

Restaurants, pubs and clubs around Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, and Hitech City, and sports lounges witnessed overwhelming merriment, with fans rejoicing every boundary and every wicket.

Hussainsagar, a regular meet-up spot for fans to celebrate India’s victory, once again saw a huge gathering with fans holding the tricolour and raising “India, India” slogans.

During the day, however, the streets of Hyderabad wore a deserted look. Most people were glued to their television sets to catch the action live.

Meanwhile, `200 crore worth liquor was consumed by people on Sunday. This is `72 crore more than the liquor sold on Saturday with beer being the most patronised choice.

Officials stated that this rise in sales was not just because of the match, but also because it was a Sunday and other social gatherings were also happening.

With India’s win, Hyderabad turned into a sea of blue.

Telangana BJP chief and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy congratulated the team for their remarkable victory. Expressing his happiness, Kishan Reddy said that the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team displayed excellent team spirit and good play. He wished that the team would play in the same spirit and win the Champions Trophy.

Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay also congratulated Indian team. He posted on his X handle: “Great win for India and humiliating defeat for Pakistan! From the streets to the stadium, every heartbeat chants — Bharat! Bharat! This victory makes 1.4 billion proud Indians!”
