BCCI, SLC Agree on Penalties to A-Team Players Over Post-Game Brawl
According to sources, the match referee, after consulting the umpires and reviewing the incidents, has formally proposed penalties for four players involved

In the recently concluded A team match between India and Sri Lanka, brawls between players and the disciplinary actions taken against them have come into focus. While these matches do not fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC, highly placed sources within both the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have confirmed that ICC rules and regulations were applied to the playing conditions.
Match Referee’s Proposal
According to sources, the Sri Lankan match referee, Pradeep Jayaprakash, after consulting the umpires and reviewing the incidents, has formally proposed penalties for four players involved. His recommendations have already been forwarded to both cricket boards for consideration.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: 50% of match fees. Tilak Varma: 30% of match fees. Vishen Halambage: 50% of match fees. Niroshan Dickwella: 30% of match fees.
Context and Implications
ICC rules: Though A team matches are not officially under ICC’s purview, applying its code of conduct ensures discipline and consistency.
Cross-board cooperation: The alignment between BCCI and SLC highlights a growing emphasis on accountability even in non-ICC fixtures.
Impact on players: Financial penalties, while not career-threatening, serve as a strong deterrent and reinforce the importance of conduct in competitive cricket.
This development underscores how the A team matches are evolving beyond being just feeder contests for national sides. They are now arenas where discipline, professionalism, and international standards are expected to be upheld.
