Why is Virat Kohli so consistent? Sunil Gavaskar discloses the secret mantra
Kanpur: After a disappointing ODI series with the bat against Australia in October, Virat Kohli showed why he is regarded as one of the world’s best in the ODI series against New Zealand. Notching two hundreds, the Indian skipper played a major role in helping the Men in Blue clinch their seventh bilateral ODI series on the trot.

During his knock of 113 in the third ODI against the Kiwis on Sunday, the India skipper shattered many records on the way. Kohli became the fastest batsman to reach 9000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in just 194 innings. His heroics also took him to the numero uno spot in the ICC ODI rankings, scoring a career-high 889 points, the best ever by an India batsman.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar revealed the secret behind Virat Kohli’s consistency and why does he keep getting better.
"Virat's consistency with the bat is beyond phenomenal. Against New Zealand, there was no question of him being denied a hundred. He got denied against the Australians but remember he learnt from that. He was not trying to run the ball to third man (against New Zealand) like he got out against the Australians in two of the five matches," Gavaskar told NDTV.
"Key to Virat Kohli's consistency is that he learns from his mistakes and to then avoid those. That is what Virat keeps on doing. There will be some same dismissals because that's what cricket is all about but if you have made a mistake and you try to avoid it. The bowlers will get you out because they will bowl you the odd good ball, that is accepted. But the thing that he learns from errors and avoids them, that is why he is so consistent," the former India batsman added.
With 32 ODI centuries now in the bag for the India talisman, his tally is only bettered by Sachin Tendulkar who has 49 to his name.
