Watch: Sri Lanka and Mumbai Indians' slinga Lasith Malinga turns off-spinner

Malinga captained local side Teejay Lanka to the MCA A' division knockout tournament title.

Colombo: After being left out of Sri Lanka squad for ODI series against Pakistan, Lasith Malinga used his time to play domestic cricket. The Sri Lanka pacer, who captained Teejay Lanka, guided his side to victory over LB Finance in the final of the MCA ‘A’ division knockout tournament.

The highlight of the final was him bowling off spinners. The pacer bowled off-spinners with hardly any run-up to the crease. In the end, he managed to pick up three wickets as LB Finance finished at 125/7 in 25 overs, losing the match by 82 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method.

The 34-year old bowler had been a regular member of ODI side but his recent form only shows his struggle to perform at the highest level after coming out of leg injury which kept him out for 19 months.

In the recently concluded ODI series against India, which Sri Lanka lost 4-0, Malinga was largely ineffective, raising questions on his career.

After the whitewash, he had said “I'm playing after 19 months following a leg injury. In the Zimbabwe and India series, I couldn’t play well. I’ll see where I’m at after this series, and evaluate how long I can play given the way my body is. No matter how experienced I am – if I can’t win a match for the team and do what the team needs, there’s no point in me being here.”

After losing a place in the national setup, only time will tell how long the pacer will carry on before bringing down curtains on his international career.
