India vs New Zealand: Shreyas Iyer hopeful of making T20 debut in Virat Kohli's side
New Delhi: Mumbai and West Zone upcoming star Shreyas Iyer is hopeful about making his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against New Zealand.
"I am really hopeful of playing for the team after getting selected in the 16-member Indian squad. It would be really nice if I get chance to play in any of the three matches. But, if I play or sit outside, in the end, the team should win," Iyer told media here on Tuesday.
"I am very flexible and I don't mind batting at any number. Even in the IPL I was shuffled from number four to number three still it didn't really matter to me because I am comfortable playing in any position. Whatever number I bat, if I play the game, I will give my best," he added.
The 22-year-old recently led the India 'A' team to series wins against South Africa. He scored a 131-ball 140 in the final game against South Africa 'A'.
The right-hand batsman said, "It was really helpful for me, as it was the final game. South Africa 'A' team was very challenging. We had lost the first game against them and then the second game went till the last over. The final was the decider and I was going through a good patch at that time.
"I was getting runs but was not able to convert them into big ones. In the final, it came out really well and it was satisfying to get the team through. Obviously, once you do that, you get a lot of attention from your teammates as well. That's a good feeling. You have to contribute in bits and pieces as well."
India will play the first T20I against New Zealand in New Delhi on Wednesday at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
