BCCI: Out with politicians, it's time for administrators
New Delhi/Bengaluru: With the Supreme Court handing over the reins of the BCCI to a four-member committee of administrators, which includes Vinod Rai (ex-CAG of India), noted historian and author Ramachandra Guha, former India women’s captain Diana Edulji and Vikram Lamaye (CEO and MD of IDFC) to oversee the running of the cricket board, it heralds the beginning of a professional set-up.
Celebrated author and cricket writer Suresh Menon put his weight behind the apex court’s decision.
“It’s an important step from the SC to get the whole thing started. It’s a big step because there is a lot of work to be done at the state and national levels to make sure the reforms are implemented,” said Menon.
“All the individuals selected have great records and background. It’s a good range of people. It’s a good decision to have people outside the officialdom of BCCI. Maybe there is a hint here about a more professional BCCI,” remarked the veteran sports journalist.
“The SC announced their ruling in July and did give enough time for the BCCI to get things in order. But they were unwilling or unable to do it. The uncertainty is over now and we must, now, look at the nuts and bolts of the process,” he added.
