We have plans to stop Gauti, Robin Uthappa: Praveen Amre

Unlike the last few years, Delhi have hit the straps this time and are gradually coming into their own as a well-rounded unit.

New Delhi: Kolkata openers Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa have been in top form, and Delhi assistant coach Praveen Amre said they “have plans” to stop the duo, who have together accumulated 466 runs in their six matches so far.
Said Amre here, “They have got an advantage, left and right-hand. Also they are playing together for the last three years.

“We have our own plans. We have had our bowlers’ meeting and discussed some plans. If you see the last match also we had plans for Suresh Raina and the way we bowled to him... we definitely have plans for both openers,” said Amre, who is also Uthappa’s personal batting coach.

Unlike the last few years, Delhi have hit the straps this time and are gradually coming into their own as a well-rounded unit. “What we’ve learnt in five matches is that with this batting also, we can come close. The last match was the best example,” said Amre.

“We have to go deeper. Bat till the 18th-19th over. We did not have a great start but we pulled ourselves back and tried to stay till long. That partnership was needed. J.P. Duminy gave us that. Once we have a young team we know we have to pull till the end. You never know, we have one big over and we’re in the game.”
