Faf Du Plessis fined for dissent

After the match, du Plessis admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe.

New Delhi: South Africa captain Faf du Plessis was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during their last ICC World Twenty20 Super 10 league game against Sri Lanka here on Monday for breaching Article 2.1.5 of the code at “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

The Proteas captain stayed on when declared out leg before in the 13th over of their run-chase before leaving the ground looking pointedly at his bat and shaking his head. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires S Ravi and Rod Tucker, third umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth official Chris Gaffaney.

After the match, du Plessis admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing, the ICC said in a statement.
