Prabhakar's contract with Afghan team not renewed

Former India cricketer was working as Afghanistan's bowling coach.

Mumbai: Former India all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar's contract with the Afghanistan team has not been renewed. This was revealed by Shafiq Stanikzai, the CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

Speaking from Edinburgh, where he has been attending the ICC meetings, Stanikzai said, "We have decided not to hire the services of Prabhakar."

The 54-year-old Prabhakar was named the bowling coach of the Afghanistan side and he, along with Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq as coach ensured the team gets recognition at the intentional level.

"Budget was not the primary concern but we have recently appointed Lalchand Rajput as our head coach and we intend to utilise the services of our own local men for the job. Rajput will guide our local coaches and groom them," the CEO added.

"Afghanistan team will play against Scotland, Ireland and Netherland. We are in discussions with few other national boards but so far nothing is decided about our future tours or home series. The Indian cricket board has been helping us a lot for the betterment of the game,” he added.

Afghanistan is scheduled to play two ODIs' against Scotland (Edinburgh), five ODIs' against Ireland (Belfast) in July.

The team and newly-appointed coach Rajput have already been in Edinburgh.
