Here's why India squads for South Africa Tests, Lanka T20s were not picked on Monday
Mumbai: While the MSK Prasad-led selection panel picked Indian squads for the third and final Test against Sri Lanka and the three-match ODI series, the Indian squads for South Africa Test series and Sri Lanka Twenty20s, as scheduled earlier, were not picked on Monday.
Although there were not too many surprises in India’s squad as Virat Kohli received a much-needed rest and Rohit Sharma was named as India captain, the delay in announcing the squads for the three-match Test series against Proteas was the talking point.
While the selection committee of MSK Prasad, Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh were in Nagpur to meet Kohli, where India defeated Sri Lanka in second Test, to pick the squads for the four series, it is now learnt that the Indian squads for Sri Lanka T20s and South Africa Tests will be picked around the third India versus Sri Lanka Delhi Test which will commence on December 2.
According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the team selection for the two series could not go through as Amitabh Choudhary, BCCI secretary and convenor of the three-member selection committee, was stuck in Mumbai due to flight delay and could not reach Nagpur for the meeting.
