Is Virat Kohli's Test squad the best India has produced? Here's Sunil Gavaskar's take

Many from the cricket fraternity including Sunil Gavaskar lauded the hosts post their 2nd Test win over Sri Lanka in Nagpur.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team dominated Sri Lanka to win the Nagpur Test by an innings and 239 runs and take 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series on Monday.

The hosts not only impressed with the bat, but also made light work in bowling out Dinesh Chandimal’s men with their impressive fielding and bowling at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Many from the cricket fraternity praised Virat Kohli’s side for their performance, and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was one of them.

For the iconic India batsman, the current squad may be up among the rest that have played over the years for the national team.

“India is firing on all cylinders. It’s batting is looking good. The bowling has got a sharp to edge to it and the fielding is outstanding. I believe India has the potential to win the series for the first time in South Africa. The crucial thing they are peaking at the right time. So I am hopeful that this time India will put one across the Proteas,” Gavaskar was quoted saying by NDTV.

“It is difficult to compare, depends on the opposition, playing conditions. But this is one which is right up there because of the balance they have. This team may be the best India has ever produced,” he added.

Previously, Kohli (12 centuries) broke Gavaskar’s record for the most centuries as India skipper (11 centuries).
