IPL media rights: SC sends BCCI notice on e-acution

Subramanian Swamy moved the SC, in order to seek e-auction of media rights for the matches of the IPL.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday, seeking a detailed response over a plea by Sumramanian Swamy regarding the e-auction of media rights for the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The auctions for the broadcasting rights are set to be held on August 17, with the rights lasting for the duration of five seasons.

Member of Parliament Subramanian Swamy moved the SC, in order to seek e-auction of media rights for the matches of the IPL.

The BCCI had opposed this motion, saying that e-auctions would not be possible. The SC has now sent the Indian cricket board a notice seeking the reason behind its opposition of the e-auctions. The apex court has, however, not stayed the auction.
