Chennai Super Kings to start off school tournament

This would further allow CSK to measure the reach of two-time IPL champion side with their fans.

Chennai: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super League (CSK) might have been banned for two years from India’s cash rich league, but that hasn’t stopped its loyal fans to continuously promote the MS Dhoni-led side on social media platforms.

Now CSK fans will be in for a joyride as the third edition for the Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 tournament will take place here from Wednesday. This would further allow CSK to measure the reach of two-time IPL champion side with their fans.

Last year, the tournament faced a major hurdle. This time around due to constant calls from schools and parents across the state who wanted to know if the tournament would be underway this season, the management has decided to give the competition the green signal.

According to a reports, the Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 tournament, CSK’s school tournament, will be held in four phases and will see 32 schools battle in out from Chennai in the opening phase.

The second phase will start from August 2 and will be held at Vellore, Erode, Villupuram, Nagapattinam and Tirunelveli. A total of 7 matches will be played in each district.

The third phase of the competition will see a total of 15 matches played across each district – Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Coimbatore and Dindigul from August 8.

The final phase will see winners of the 10 districts, and winner and runners-up of Chennai play in Tirunelveli from December 26. This phase should possibly see 12 league games and 3 knockouts being played.

Totally 152 teams from across the state are slated to be part of this competition. “Kids form an important fan base for CSK. When kids take a liking to something, parents too tend to get involved. CSK has never gone in search of brand recall. It is the sheer love of the fans and kids which have made CSK such a popular outfit,” said K George John, the director of CSK.

The Junior Super Kings tournament looks to be on the road purely due to fans and their loyalty will CSK. Rajasthan Royals, the other team suspended, will also want to start something like this.
