IPL 2018: Rohit Sharma plays captain's knock as Mumbai Indians outclass Dhoni's CSK

This was CSK's first loss at their new home ground in Pune.

Pune: Mumbai Indians produced a brilliant fightback as R

ohit Sharma's men beat Chennai Super Kings in the 27th match of the Indian Premier League here on Saturday. This was CSK's second win at Pune in as many matches.

After winning the toss and fielding, MI's plans did not work out well, despite getting Shane Watson ( 12 runs) early.

What followed was a 51-run stand between Ambati Rayudu (46) and Suresh Raina (75 not out).

However, the former's innings came to an end as he fell short of a fifty as Krunal Pandya struck again.

But then, the atmosphere at the stadium turned different. Chants of 'Dhoni Dhoni' from the crowd welcomed the captain of CSK, MS Dhoni, who managed 26 off 21 balls.

However, despite the Dhoni scare, the last five overs went to the MI, as Mitchell McClenaghan struck twice to remove Dhoni and then Dwayne Bravo in the 18th over.

The hosts fought back, but lost Sam Billings just before the end of innings, but the Men in Yellow went on to make 169-5.

MI started strongly in their reply, but lost Suryakumar Yadav (44) in the 10th over.

Despite making a 59-run partnership with Rohit Sharma, Evin Lewis (47) too suffered the same fate as Suryakumar and Raina earlier, having missed out on his fifty.

CSK, however, suffered a big blow as Deepak Chahar walked iff the field while bowling as he suffered an injury. Harbhajan Singh continued bowling for Chahar.

However, it was Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, who steered the visitors home, taking them off the bottom of the table.
