Mumbai: Mumbai Indians do have a fielding coach, he is none other than the legendary Jonty Rhodes. The former South Africa batsman known for his spring-like actions on the field will be a disappointed man on Thursday. His lads dropped three sitters when the Paltans took on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) here at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
Mitchell McClenaghan and Tim Southee – two Kiwis and Mumbai’s opening bowlers – found themselves in the lurch when they dropped easy catches.
McClenaghan dropped KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir off his own bowling, who went to score a 45-ball 59 helping the team reach 174 for the loss of five wickets.
Chris Lynn, playing his first match of the season, survived twice in the 19th over. Tim Southee dropped him twice at deep midwicket off McClenaghan’s bowling.
Lynn, a good striker of the ball, pulled the slower short delivery to deep midwicket which kissed Southee’s hands only to pop out in the next second.
That was not all, McClenaghan bowled the same delivery and Lynn hit the ball in the same area. Southee ran in to place himself better to catch it but he ripped his palms open to let it go beyond the boundary rope.
The television cameras panned to Rhodes, his expressions were priceless – he looked baffled.
