Baby Akhira gets a sister!

Ravichandran Ashwin and wife Prithi welcome birth of their second child, another baby girl.

The year 2016 continues to get better for Ravichandran Ashwin. After winning the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year, he has now turned daddy for the second time! He first became a parent in 2015, when his daughter Akhira was born.

Prithi, Ashwin’s wife, delivered the couple’s second child, a baby girl, in the city on 21st December — a day after India had won the fifth and final Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium — but announced it only recently on Twitter, in the wittiest manner, “I delivered carrom baby #2 on the 21st. She waited out a State-wide shut down thanks to the cyclone AND 5 days of Test cricket at Chepauk. I thought my water would break when we won that game and I was going to have the baby at Chepauk. Now, THAT would have been some story! (sic)”

The new mommy adds, “She arrived the next day. We Didn’t want to steal Appas ‘Cricketer of the Year’ moment, so telling you guys now. Santa was kind at the end of a rough and emotionally draining 2016. Also RIP sleep in 2017. (sic)”
Ashwin was recently targeted after he did not name Dhoni in his speech after being declared winner of two ICC awards. Following the criticism, he took to Twitter to state that people must not tag his wife in their funny tweets, as she has better things to look after.
