Axar Patel ruled out of India-England ODIs, T20s
Mumbai: The injury list of Indian cricketers keeps growing after it was learnt that Axar Patel and Jayant Yadav were ruled out of selection for the England ODIs and T20s.
While Rohit Sharma is out of the series as he is recovering from a surgery and R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to be rested, Mohammed Shami won’t feature in the series.
Axar, although was not a part of India’s Test squad, injured his thumb as he came in as a substitute fielder in the final Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Gujarat all-rounder, who was called in as a back-up for Jayant Yadav who had a hamstring niggle, suffered a ligament tear after a Liam Dawson shot hit him.
Axar, although ranked no.9 in ODI rankings for bowlers and played all the five ODIs against New Zealand during India's last limited-overs assignment, is still finding his feet in International cricket and gets a chance to be in India’s playing XI only when the regulars are a not part of the team.
Meanwhile, there is no guarantee whether Ajinkya Rahane, who injured his finger during the training session ahead of fourth India-England Test in Mumbai, Hardik Pandya, who injured his shoulder, and Karun Nair, who had to undergo scans during the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Tamil Nadu will take any part in the six games India will play under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
