Mumbai: Australia captain Steve Smith has reopened the DRS controversy that arose during the India-Australia Test series earlier this year, stating that Team India captain Virat Kohli’s claims were nothing but ‘rubbish’.

Virat Kohli, earlier this year, had claimed about a systemic DRS abuse by Australia during the Test series between the two teams. Also, during a press conference at the Bangalore Test, Kohli had almost termed the Aussie captain as a ‘cheat’.

"I am not entirely sure about what he was coming on about there. Because that was the only moment that it ever happened," Steve Smith was quoted saying by ESPNcricinfo.

"As far as I was concerned, we'd never tried to consult with the dressing room beforehand and although he said he'd brought those previous occasions to the notice of the umpires, I can say categorically that we were never spoken to by either those umpires or match referee Chris Broad about any such breaches in protocol," he added.

The Border-Gavasker Trophy earlier this year, was won won by Virat Kohli and co, as they clinched the series 2-1.

In the recently-concluded limited overs series, the Men in Blue had comfortably defeated the world champions 4-1 in the ODI series, while the T20 trophy was shared 1-1.
