Ranchi stadium goes ballistic as Dhoni walks out to bat

While India lost the match, Dhoni received a thunderous cheer as he replaced Virat Kohli in the middle.

Ranchi: While India could not cross the finish line and seal the ODI series against New Zealand in Ranchi, Indian cricket team’s limited-overs skipper received a grand welcome in his hometown as he came out to bat at number four.

MS Dhoni could score just 11 runs off 31 deliveries as India lost the game by 19 runs at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium.

While the mainstay of India’s batting Virat Kohli had got out and India were in a spot of bother, the stadium erupted as the local lad Dhoni replaced Kohli in the middle.

Earlier, Dhoni had pulled off an absolute stunner to run out Ross Taylor to give India a crucial breakthrough as the Kane Williamson-led side looked good to score big.

Before the game, as the Indian team left the team hotel, fans waiting outside the venue to see Dhoni could not contain their joy.
